The Indian table tennis contingent returns to Australia three months after a successful campaign at the Commonwealth games that yielded eight medals.
The players that will take part in the Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour Platinum Australian Open includes Gold medallist Manika Batra, who will be joined by veterans Sharath Kamal and Mouma Das, India’s highest ranked player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, and the likes of Madhurika Patkar, Sanil Shetty, Harmeet Desai, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Pooja Sahasrabudhe, Anthony Amalraj, and youngsters Ayhika Mukherjee and Manav Thakkar.
Coming on the back of a fruitful season of the CEAT UTT, Manika Batra and Sathiyan G. guided Dabang Smashers TTC to the Championship, leading all the way from the front, and will be the players to look out for. Season 2 semi-finalists in the CEAT UTT, Madhurika Patkar and Amalraj Anthony of Maharashtra United and Sutirtha Mukherjee and Sanil Shetty of Falcons TTC, also bring their form into the tournament. The tournaments’ rising stars, Manav Thakkar and Ayhika Mukherjee, punched above their weight with their performances, and will surely have a lot of eyes on them.
The players came across a roadblock when they could not make it to Australia on schedule due to unanticipated circumstances. As they land on familiar shores, the team will look determined to make the most out of the settings that brought them glory just a few months ago.
