The Indian contingent of paddlers are all set to take on top paddlers from around the world at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championship, starting on the 21 st of April in Budapest, Hungary.
The team consists of three players from the Dabang Smashers TTC – Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manika Batra, and Archana Kamath. This is Archana’s first showing at the WTTC, coming on the back of an incredible year in the National circuit. She was crowned the National Champion, after beating Manika in the semi-finals on the way to the title, thus commanding the No. 1 spot in the National rankings.
Maharashtra United’s Madhurika Patkar and Amalraj Anthony make the squad, as do Falcons TTC’s Sutirtha Mukherjee, Warriors TTC’s veteran Sharath Kamal, and Team Challengers’ Manav Thakkar. Like Archana, Manav too is a debutante at the WTTC, and will be eager to cause a few upsets on the world stage.
India’s highest ranked paddler in the ITTF world rankings, Sathiyan G, will be another athlete eager to prove his mettle, after a commendable performance in the 32 nd ITTF ATTU Asian Cup which sealed a spot for him at the World Cup in China. On the whole, Team India are confident in their ability to perform well after a steady rise in the world stage. They would definitely be counted as serious contenders in all competitions, especially after their exploits in the Asian
Games and CWG 2018.
