The Ultimate Table Tennis held a press conference here in New Delhi on the eve of the league’s third season.
The 2019 season brings with it a host of changes, with lesser matches and no restrictions on the categories that play against each other in the men’s and women’s groups respectively.
The paddlers and viewers are sure to embrace this change, as the game is faster, leading to a 175% increase in viewership, from 5.7million to 16million.
Now in the third season, UTT has undergone a lot of changes that have helped the league gain international recognition. It started with India Open which changed the perception of India as a growing table tennis frontier, and a lot of international paddlers looked forward to being a part of UTT. Now, there are players who are back for their third season like Tiago Apolonia (Chennai Lions), Doo Hoi Kem (UMumba TT), and Sabine Winter (Puneri Paltan Table Tennis).
Kamalesh Mehta, Director – 11SPORTS, also took the opportunity to shed some light on how UTT is changing the table tennis atmosphere in India. “Since 2015, the UTT is developing a holistic set up for table tennis in India. Under this, we also organise school tournaments, SGFI and corporate tournaments. All these efforts are in line towards a common goal - that is an Olympic medal for India.”
UTT will begin tomorrow at 7 pm IST and will be aired LIVE on Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sports Select 1, Star Sports Select 1 HD, Hotstar and JioTV, as champions Dabang Delhi T.T.C. take on Puneri Paltan Table Tennis.
